Had an unexpected opportunity last weekend to participate in a short raku firing. Really enjoyed it, once I got past the presence of lots more fire than I’d been expecting (and I’d been expecting a LOT of fire), and the shock of being asked to move fiery buckets of fire. With my hands. The ones on my arms, connected to my nervous system. The fire wasn’t even staying in the bucket. It was all shooty-outy from under the lid.
I survived unscathed, though. Yay for leather welder’s gear. Ever since I’ve been dreaming of luster glazes, and crackle glazes, and flashing glazes… Raku sheep, raku tiles, raku jellyfish, raku platters.
After the gallery project. Probably also after Fresh Fish. But sometime in the next few moths, I want to get my hands on some raku clay.
Just worked out how to attach the tentacles and sundry dangly bits today!
