The weather’s gotten cooler at night. The days are still warm most of the time, but they’re shorter. Apples are ripe, and the wind has picked up. It’s fall.

I always feel like fall is the start of a new year. None of this middle-of-the-snow crap that happens in January. Fall and spring are when things start changing; they’re the sensible places to start a new year.

This fall feels especially important. First garden to tidy. (If I’m organized enough, first cold frames to install.) First house to shore up before winter. First gallery show.

I’ll have brainspace, once this show is up, to think about the next one. About art career vs production career, and how to balance them. How to carry all the things this show has taught me into my professional practice. How to build on this momentum.

I’m looking forward to it.
