I’ve had tentacles on the brain for a long time. Cephalopods are some of my favourite animals, and showed up in my work early on. I spent years making a whole production line of cephalopottery, back before the Robots and the book project consumed me. I’ve been making a few more cephalopots recently, for wholesale orders, but I really want to do more with the theme.
Tentacles are fun. They’re fun shapes to play with, they can be grouped to make neato-cool arrangements, and quite frankly they’re sort of pretty. And, as fun and elegant as they are, they can also be menacing. They’re the tips of the kraken, the monster in the deeps, and they’re reaching for you…
I feel a show proposal coming on.

My name is Maaike Charron, and I'm a potter in St. John's, Newfoundland. I started fiddling around with pottery in summer 2006, when I was told volunteering in the local clay studio would get me free studio time. I mostly taught myself, spending a lot of time poring over books, magazines and websites, and occasionally pestering the more advanced (but very helpful) potters around me with questions. After about two years, I decided I'd gotten good enough to go into business for myself. This blog, started after my first big craft fair, was created to document the process of becoming a wondrously succesful craftsperson. (Or it will document How Not To Do It. We'll see.)
